Do I have to move to another room after the birth?
We provide you with a single-room maternity experience. That means that you will be in one private room for labor, delivery, recovery as well as the time after birth until discharge. In addition to the high-tech equipment that slides out of sight, each of our rooms is equipped for your comfort with items such as a private bathroom and shower, a pull-out couch for Dad, and amenities such as a refrigerator, radio with cassette player, and a television and VCR.
Can we make long distance calls from our room?
Long distance calls can be made from your room using a calling card. Pre-paid phone cards are available in the Hospital Gift Shop.
Can we use our own cell phones within the hospital?
We ask that you do not use cell phones within the Hospital, as they can sometimes interfere with our telephone system, as well as patient care and monitoring systems.
What should we bring to the hospital when we are in labor?
Certainly you may bring whatever will make you comfortable. We do provide TVs, VCRs, radios, tape players, refrigerators and the ever-popular “johnny,” as an incentive for Dad to remember his own pajamas! We encourage you to bring whatever items will help you to stay focused and relaxed during labor. All jewelry and money, except for small change for miscellaneous purchases, should be left at home. The Hospital cannot be responsible for looking after items to prevent damage, or for the loss of money, jewelry or other items left in your room. If you wish to have valuables placed in the Hospital safe, the staff will help you make the necessary arrangements.
Will my baby “room” in with me after birth?
We encourage mothers to keep their baby in the room with them throughout their stay, but should you require even a short break, our well-baby nursery is always available. All you have to do is press the call button.
How do you keep my infant safe and secure while we are in the Hospital?
In addition to our excellent staff, a state-of-the art infant security system protects your baby. For additional protection all babies and parents wear matching identification bracelets which are checked frequently by the staff.
What if I need to have a Cesarean birth?
Sometimes a cesarean birth is necessary. If that's the case, we'll move you to one of our two fully-equipped surgical suites within the Pregnancy & Birth Center. All staff necessary for a Cesarean delivery are available within a moment's notice.
What if my baby needs special medical attention after birth?
If your baby has any special medical needs during and after birth, the specially trained staff members of our Level II neonatal intensive care nursery are standing by to offer your baby one-on-one care.
